Adenosine and peptides: what 'well-aging' means on a label

A plain guide to adenosine and peptides in firming-focused skincare, what ppm means, and how to set honest expectations with clients.

"Well-aging" is a label word clients ask about. It usually means daily care focused on how skin looks and feels over time: firmness, smoothness and comfort. Two ingredient families come up in that conversation again and again, adenosine and peptides. Here is what your team needs to know, and how to talk about them without promising more than a cosmetic can deliver.

Adenosine, in plain terms

Adenosine is a compound that occurs naturally in the body. In skincare it appears in formulas focused on the look of firmness and smoothness. On an ingredient list it is simply "Adenosine". In the EGF Blue Youth Activating Drop it is the last ingredient listed. In the Blue EGF Intensive Pro Cream it sits mid-list. A late position is normal for ingredients used at low levels.

Peptides, in plain terms

Peptides are short chains of amino acids, and skincare uses many kinds. Two show up on Blue Line labels:

  • sh-Oligopeptide-1, known as EGF.
  • sh-Polypeptide-1, known as FGF.

The "sh" prefix is part of the standard ingredient naming for these lab-made peptides. The Drop contains 10 ppm of each, alongside 1,000 ppm guaiazulene and adenosine, at pH 5.5. The Pro Cream lists EGF at 10 ppm with adenosine and 3% panthenol.

What ppm means

Parts per million. 10 ppm is 0.001 percent. That sounds small, and it is. Peptides are typically used at low levels, so a small figure is expected. Train staff to state it plainly and move on.

Setting realistic expectations

  • Cosmetic firming care is about the look and feel of skin. Use phrases like "supports the look of firmness" and "smoother-looking skin".
  • Consistency matters more than any single product. Suggest daily use for several weeks before a client judges the routine.
  • Pair any well-aging routine with daily sun care. Finish mornings with an SPF.
  • Lead with the fast, visible claim. The Drop is made for visibly calmer-looking skin in about three minutes. Save firmness for the longer conversation.

Say this, skip this

Say:

  • "A lightweight first serum for early firmness care."
  • "Supports the look of firmness with daily use."
  • "EGF and FGF peptides with adenosine, in a watery texture."
  • "A cream step with EGF, adenosine and 3% panthenol for comfort."

Skip:

  • Any promise of a number of years off.
  • Anything about what a product does beneath the surface of the skin.
  • Comparisons with in-office procedures or injectables.
  • Before-and-after promises of any kind.

A five-minute team drill

  1. Hand out a Drop box and a Pro Cream box.
  2. Ask each person to find adenosine and the two peptides on the ingredient lists.
  3. Have them explain ppm in one sentence.
  4. Role-play a client who asks, "Will this take ten years off?" and practice the honest answer.
At the counter: "Adenosine and the EGF and FGF peptides are there for early firmness care. Use it every day for a few weeks, and look at how your skin looks and feels."
